Millennial

We're millennial, a new species recently discovered,

We're fearless and busy hustling!

We're found working for the life we have envisioned,

We're more than often seen chilling.

But hey! That's got nothing to do with you,

it's our lives that we are found living!

For us, education is important.

We have degrees, a few of us will get it very soon.

We're studying, we're out here making our own lives,

And in this world, we come as a boon!

We know what's right and what's wrong,

Also, I don't think we can dance to your tune!

A boy or a girl, both of us can do our work.

We can cook, we clean, we're on our own!

We strive to live amidst the chaos you've created,

but all you care is that we're always on our phone!

We sleep a lot more than you do, but that's "me time",

We like privacy and sometimes we also like to be left alone.

Workwise, the egos we've kept aside,

He can manage a firm, so can she.

There's no debate about work and gender;

CEO's you talk about, for us there's gender equality!

We want those government jobs, not for the privileges.

Millennial we are, we know a good life doesn't come for free.

We know the Economics, we know what you're doing!

The politics you play with, we understand who's behind it.

Don't mistake us for a bunch of young lost adults,

Because Democracy we know, we can take over in just one bit!

We're the same millennials who Netflix and chill,

Don't just assume that to this society, we are a misfit!

A few may still live on parents' money, a few might already own houses,

Keep us away from the competition you deem us to be in!

We take things as it comes and time is important, we understand,

Millennial we are, the pros and cons very well can determine.

Empowerment we believe in, we condemn reservation,

We're thoughtful and responsible, far more than you can imagine!

Yes, money is important and we run behind it,

but this is only because you ruined it for us!

There's unemployment and the economy is going down,

With the poverty and political mess, we're nothing but anxious!

Environmental problems have increased, the planet is dying,

We could've led a nice life, had you not been callous.

We don't soak ourselves in the water bodies as a part of the culture,

In festivals we don't burst crackers! There was never its necessity.

While a few believe in religion, some might condemn its existence,

Unlike you, we don't consider questioning your spirituality!

We are not blinded by any of it; we are proponents of common sense,

Millennial we are, we prefer to stay in reality.

We acknowledge population growth,

We don't shy away from talking about menstruation.

Despite the reproduction chapter skipped in school,

We are all very well equipped with sex education.

Well informed, practical and rational we deem ourselves to be,

and you're here questioning our entire generation!

We know about mental health;

Psychologists, therapies and Psychiatrists are a normal thing to cater to.

We know anxiety, depression and mental illnesses,

Thereby thrashing the age-old believes, amidst which most of us grew!

"It's okay to be feeling this way, it's normal" - said none of you ever,

But that's not an issue at all because we've all come through.

With all this said we take a break from your set age-old rules,

Because we're making a life, a life that we're living.
